Tax Return Review: A Second Opinion on Your Filed Return
Written by Deanna R. Ngueket, CPA. Reviewed October 2026. This page is general information, not tax advice for your situation.
Wondering whether a return you already filed was done right? I review it and tell you in plain English what was handled correctly, what may have been missed, and what to look at going forward. I work with individuals in Houston, Spring, Humble, Atascocita and across Texas. Think of it as a second opinion from a CPA.
A review is a fixed-fee, one-time look at a return that has already been filed. It is a good first step if you prepared your own return, changed preparers, or are not sure yet whether you need year-round planning.
What the review covers
What you receive
- Written findings in plain English: what is right, what may have been missed, and what to do before December 31
- A 30-minute meeting to walk through the findings and answer your questions
- Findings delivered within 14 days after I receive your documents
- A clear answer on whether an amended return is worth filing, before you spend anything on one
What it costs
Individual return review
$300 per return year.
Each additional year reviewed is the same fee as the first. The fee is paid in full before the review begins and is not credited toward any other service. Prices are for the review only; anything it leads to is quoted separately before any work starts.
How this leads to planning. A review or study is how I find out whether tax planning fits you, and what kind. My Tax Concierge planning is built around each taxpayer and each business, so it is quoted once your review or study is complete.

Frequently asked questions
Will a review find money I missed?
Not necessarily. Some returns are filed correctly, and knowing that is useful too. I tell you what I find either way, and I do not promise a refund or a specific result.
Can you give a second opinion before I file?
This review is for returns that have already been filed. If you haven’t filed yet, see Tax Preparation.
What happens if you find an error?
I explain what it is and what it would take to fix it. If an amended return makes sense, I quote it separately before any work begins, so you can decide.
How far back can a return be corrected?
Generally, a claim for refund must be filed within 3 years from the date you filed the original return or 2 years from the date you paid the tax, whichever is later.
Do you work with clients outside the Houston area?
Yes. I run a hybrid practice and work with clients across Texas, by video call or in person.
